International Boat Show relocated to abandoned Marine Stadium
AFTER THE DAMAGING EFFECTS OF HURRICANE ANDREW, THE ICONIC MIAMI MARINE STADIUM ON VIRGINIA KEY HAS RECENTLY BEEN APPROVED TO GET A MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR MAKEOVER.
The graffiti cover structure, originally built in 1963 has been closed for over 20 years and is soon going to be welcoming one of the largest boat shows in 2016. The International Boat Show which is currently held at the Miami Beach Convention Center will be relocated to the Miami Marine Stadium and at an ideal timing, for the Convention Center will begin to undergo construction in 2016.
Being the face of the project, Grammy award winning singer, Gloria Estefan and her husband Emilio are aiming to raise $30 million dollars for the project and are already half way with private donations and grants. The couple hopes to retain some of the graffiti covered structure in the restoration. There is also hopes for the future restored Miami Marine Stadium to bring sporting events and musical shows as it had in its former glory.
